Montane Fast Alpine 40 - Antarctic Blue - Technical alpine climbing pack
Serious mountain climbs demand well-designed, well-constructed kit. Developed in conjunction with Montane’s lead athlete and big wall climber Andy Kirkpatrick, leading British mountain guides and outdoor activists, the Montane Fast Alpine 40 exudes functionality. The Montane Fast Alpine 40 is designed to carry heavy climbing equipment to the base of a route and can compress down tightly when relatively empty. It works perfectly in conjunction with a technical climbing harness and is robust enough to cope with contact against abrasive rock surfaces. Most importantly, it is comfortable on long routes when dynamic climbing manoeuvres are required.

CONSTRUCTION
• Constructed from Raptor RS fabric in the main body which is tough yet lightweight and features a superb DWR and tear resistance
• Raptor UTL tough, lightweight panels for additional abrasion protection against rock surfaces
• Granite Stretch skirt lid side panels give a clean fabric hugging lid closure
• Super lightweight Halo lining fabric has a 1m hydrostatic head and offers additional protection to contents
BACK SYSTEM
• Minimalist, lightweight moulded Montane ‘Comfort Climb Back Pad’ features channels that enhance ventilation and wick moisture away from the body
• ‘VertErgo Climb’ lightweight back system provides strength, support and comfort when carrying heavy loads, whilst also providing flex so as to not inhibit body movement. It can also be manipulated to fit the user’s back for a specific tailored fit
• ‘VertErgo Climb’ back system is engineered to be helmet compatible and allow unrestricted movement
• ‘VertErgo Climb’ back system has a horizontal top section which provides structure for top tension straps to torque off
• If extreme weight saving and minimalism is required, ‘VertErgo Climb’ back system can be removed from pack
HARNESS CONFIGURATION
• Features Contact Mesh on the shoulder straps, Montane ‘Comfort Back Pad’ and inner hip belt facings to prevent abrasion on waterproof shell clothing when the pack is full to capacity and with heavy use
• Two top shoulder tension straps allow pack weight to pull closer to the body and control pack stability
• Shoulder straps have been specifically engineered for climbers to allow unrestricted movement when reaching and stretching during climbs
• Chest and hip gear loops on either side for clipping spare hardware essentials whilst on the move
• Chest harness with off-centre buckle which reduces bulk across the sternum and is easy to use with gloves or mitts
• Body curve hip fins for excellent comfort and strong stability whatever the terrain
• Removable padded hip belt for further weight reduction and to prevent interference with a climbing harness
• Fixed webbing waist belt, with metal ‘quick release’ fastening which remains connected to the pack to provide continued stability
POCKET CONFIGURATION
• Internal security pocket featuring vertical upside down zippered entry
LOADING AND CLOSURE CONFIGURATION
• Extendable top lid with compression straps for increased height to accommodate a bulky rope
• Wide mouth central opening with ‘Cord Lord’ quick release mechanism
• Extendable internal top sleeve for extra storm protection of contents with double compression on outside opening and internal sleeve opening with ‘Cord Lord’ quick release mechanism
COMPRESSION
• Top single hand side compression straps offer effective compression and help provide additional stability
• Easy to use single hand compression of the whole lower pack body
• Space saving efficient top lid front pull allowing for good vertical pack compression
• Internal top compression over mouth opening for secure rope storage
TOOL ATTACHMENT POINTS
• Minimalist technical ice axe attachment points. Tools can be attached in an ‘Alpine safe’ position for increased safety when moving quickly or under tilted movement
FURTHER FEATURES
• Includes a lightweight removable Montane ‘Alpine Mat’; a versatile custom foldable bivvy mat that provides additional back system padding when on the move
• Front central reinforced horizontal grab handle that is easy to use with gloves or mitts
• Stiffened front lid panel with lightweight glove and mitt friendly metal buckle
• Reversible mitt and glove friendly locking webbing buckles and tough metal components throughout
• Hydration bladder compatible with internal storage sleeve
